SIMRONE KAINTH
BROKEN
As Director, Cinematographer, Editor, Sound and Musician, a solo project tells the story of sexual-abuse, suicide, child-abuse and murder. I introduce a psychological Eportraying people as a victim of their own minds, approaching a “would’ve, could’ve”concept based on experiences that I have had, could have been or interfered with in my life.
MANIFESTO
There is a life filled with trauma and another filled with regret. One filled with misunderstanding as they grew up with content. Myself included hide in the midst that dreams a reality that does not exist.
As a songwriter and director, I can portray how we see through the eyes of another by painting the imagination into real life colour. I want to break the stigma against mental health, fighting against those who disagree to eventually find some empathy. To do so, I will embody a memory that has taunted the vulnerable endlessly.
we talk about morals and the principles of justice yet there is neglect and discrimination, especially in our generation. Over 70,000 children are on anti-depressants and others believe it’s just for attention.
In the darkness that the mind hides within, I focus on what others call a “sin”. By creating the subconscious into its own personality, there’s an insight into another person’s mentality. From there I am able to expose its own true story.
However, it’s not just about mental health, it’s the influence, the cause or the crime that leads to the downfall of a person’s mind. This is what I also focus on. On top of writing a story or a song, I write a life... the one of my best friend who introduced her skin to a knife, or the brother who died and the family that cried with pain in their eyes.
This is my manifesto, beginning with the story of my life.

Artist Manifesto: Simrone your work is truly heartfelt and you have found your own unique approach to articulating your thoughts, whether about emotional suffering, tragedy or life-changing loss. Your manifesto feels like the perfect vehicle for expressing such things at this moment in time; and comes with the kind of insight and sensitivity that often only comes from living through such deeply profound experiences. And as you probe the darkness, insight awaits. You have undoubtedly much to give to others - you highlight, quite rightly, the tragedy of a generation leaning heavily on the crutch of anti-depressants as a coping mechanism…there is much work to be done to change society’s ills, especially when it can feels - as you state - like empathy is in short supply and the vulnerable are taunted endlessly. You are undoubtedly someone who can be an agent for change – and what better way than through creativity. It doesn’t always take grand gestures…it often starts with words on a page, and the power of intention and a resolution to make a difference, however small. I applaud you for the work so far and am excited to see where you take it all. Thank you for your active participation across this semester’s lectures and seminars and responding positively to the tasks given.
Please. Never stop creating!
